GenOffGrid, the Broome born, Solar, Battery and MicroGrid specialist now with operations in Kununurra, Darwin, Lae and Port Moresby is pleased to announce that it has entered a MOU with Hira Steels Limited, a part of a consortium of over 14 companies renowned as Hira Group of Industries in India to jointly develop opportunities for building owning and operating large scale remote solar/battery power stations in Northern Australia and the Kimberley.

Introductions made by The Australian Trade Commission between GenOffGrid and Hira Steels combined with the recent visit to Mumbai and New Delhi by Mr. John Davidson (Managing Director, GenOffGrid) that coincided with the World Energy Storage Conference have culminated in the visit of Mr. Nishit Nath (Vice President, Hira Renewables Australia) to Broome, Derby, Camballin and Fitzroy, and the decision to enter into an agreement.

Denise Eaton (Trade & Investment Commissioner, Austrade) said, “Australia is deeply committed to transitioning to a sustainable and clean energy future and have made significant strides in renewable energy. We are happy to see that the partnership is result of recent Australia’s largest clean energy delegation to India”

Both companies will provide resources to identify and develop opportunities where substantial equity investment will be made by Hira to fund the capital costs to engineer and build large scale remote solar/battery power stations to replace up to 80% of fossil fuel used for remote power generation.

Mr. Nath (Vice President Hira Renewables) said “Hira Steels has an interest in partnering with local companies and landowner groups to jointly own and operate power generation assets in Northern Australia and the Pacific and GenOffGrid has a number of very successful projects and a proven operating model for using solar/batteries for replacing diesel and gas generation. This agreement will allow us to work towards providing the necessary capital for these types of projects.”

John Davidson (Managing Director) said, “We are keen to continue to develop our regional presence and now with a substantial and ethical funding partner we can jointly own the assets we build against the sale of energy supply services. This enables us to expand into much larger projects and opportunities. Our presence in Broome remains strategic and will continue to house our centralized engineering team. Local content remains our top priority and early engagement with local landowner groups has begun as we prioritize the further development of local enterprises and community.”

Mr. Geoff Harewa (Shire Derby West Kimberly Deputy President) said he was pleased to learn of the agreement which will allow further buildup of local content in upcoming energy programs in the Kimberley, in order to be able to build on traditional owners’ interest in becoming a pivotal part of energy transformation and renewables. We are pleased to be engaged with GenOffGrid and Hira for the purpose of discussions regarding early engagement with local Indigenous landowner Groups and participation.

Hira Group is currently operating over 300 MWs of wind, thermal and solar energy for captive consumption in its steel mills and mining sites in India. With another 250 MWs of Solar energy under construction and new Power Purchase Agreements under way, Hira has become one of the largest private energy producers in India.

GenOffGrid have recently completed a large solar project under an Australian Foreign Aid program in remote PNG powering a town of 15,000 people with its solar battery microgrid solution.
